Victor M. Oreshnikov
Artist Statement
Victor M. Oreshnikov is a real representative of classical art in painting. Although he never
admitted decorativeness without content in his own creative work, he highly appreciate Henri Matisses work.. He never let himself paint meaningless canvases but decorativeness and beauty of colouring were at the first place in solving his pictorial compositions. It is characteristic of him that even his brief studies are compositionally well thought-out.
His artistic individuality was formed in upholding the principles of classical art from the influence of fashionable formalistic trends of the 20th century. Though in his early period of apprenticeship Victor Oreshnikov was fond of cezannism and cubism.
In 20-s early 30-s Oreshnikovs teachers were Konstantin S. Petrov-Vodkin and Isaak I. Brodsky. But the artist considered El Greco, Tician and Velazques his real masters. Victor Oreshnikov always remained determined and firm in the fight for the principles in which he believed and thinks criminal the modernist deviation from vital sensation
